2.)   The Cradle of Humankind

Explore the history of Humankind at this spectacular world heritage site. Many significant fossil finds have been made in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, including the famous fossils “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”. The Cradle of Humankind comprises many palaeontological sites – all together, there are 15 sites which make up the World Heritage Site.

The evolving landscape of the Cradle of Humankind is today dominated by the Rocky Highveld Grassland, which supports a great diversity of plants and animals, some of which are rare and endangered.

3.)   The Apartheid Museum

MARCH 17, 2021. The Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg will be closing its doors “until further notice” due to the coronavirus. The Director of the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, Christopher Till, says they may reopen in September depending on what happens. “The museum announced on its Facebook page that it would be closed to the public. “Due to the continued effects of Covid-19, the Apartheid Museum will be closing to the public again from tomorrow — Monday March 1 2021 — until further notice.” Libraries, museums and galleries have continued to operate under level three of the government’s lockdown restrictions, with a maximum of 50 people.’ PHOTOGRAPH: ALON SKUY

The Apartheid Museum opened in 2001 and is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with 20th century South Africa, at the heart of which is the apartheid story.

The Apartheid Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid.

An architectural consortium, comprising several leading architectural firms, conceptualised the design of the building on a seven-hectare stand. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience.

4.)   Horse-Riding in the Magaliesburg Mountains
